I promised myself that I would try and stay on top of my blog, but like always, I FELL BEHIND!! It’s funny…about this time last year I was in the same predicament and had no choice but to cram most of the ’09 into one blog. Well, here I go again and this time I’ll try to keep it short and sweet while giving you all a glimpse into my crazy year!
Shot my very first music video for “If You Go ft. Roscoe Umali“. This was such a fun experience, especially since I got to work with my close friends from Outer Circle Crew and the Syrenz, as well as my amazing producer, Techbeatz. My closest friends were also on set to support me and the 12 hour day literally flew by! Thanks to Juwan Chung (dir.), Johnny Ching (dp), Dave Kebo, the entire cast and crew and the one and only Dan Rogers for the insane editing job!!
I also had the privilege of working with August Vouniozs and Charles Beckman, who both directed the official music video for “Mon Amie”. My bff (mon amie) made a cameo appearance in the video, and I got the my pastors’ daughters (the 2 cutest girls in the whole world!) to play the younger versions of myself and my best friend. The cast and crew hiked with babies on board, and even got completely drenched in the freezing ocean to get all of our beautiful shots in 2 days. The kids were so great and cooperative and I sincerely thank their parents for allowing them to be a part of my video!
After waiting anxiously for the final edits of both videos, I got to share them with everyone at the video release party held at Cinespace in Hollywood. The response was great and I had a blast performing with my band (Heday Ikumo, Valerie Stern and Spike Phillips) prior to the screening. Here is one of the numbers that we performed with dancers Chereese Mackey and Yasmeen Montes: Photography by Johnny Ching.

June was a crazy month!! I shot 2 more music videos on back-to-back weekends, both in just about 12 hours each! Thank you to dir. Peter Mascetta, his entire crew and to producer Noah+The Man for making the remix of “Therapy”! Photography by Elan Greenwald.

August and Charles stepped up again for the shoot of “Waterfalls”. We had multiple crews shooting all over downtown Los Angeles for the entire day, and we got our final rooftop performance shot together right at sunset…it was beautiful! Photography by Elan Greenwald.

By mid summer, it felt like I hadn’t done a show in ages and with the production of all 4 music videos behind me, we put together our first organically live gig at the Aqua Lounge in Beverly Hills. Here is a medley of what went down the whole night: Photography by Elan Greenwald.

August was a pretty packed month, too with multiple shows, more shoots and production in gear for my new album due out 2011. The most memorable one of them all, however, was my very first ukulele performance at Room 5 with Marie Choi, Spike Phillips, Heday Ikumo and Phil Parlapiano. We jammed to some of my tunes from “Therapy”, a bunch of my favorite covers and I sampled 2 of my newest songs from my next album, all of which the audience seemed to really enjoy. It was such a cozy, intimate show and love was definitely in the air that night =) Peep our cover of “Bizarre Love Triangle” below: Photography by Elan Greenwald.

Both vids for “Waterfalls” and “Therapy N+TM Mix” were now ready for a premiere, and my birthday party was the perfect occasion to celebrate it with family, friends and fans. I decided to do an acoustic set along with a sexy, charged set of both video numbers. Best of all, my choreographer, Darrien got to perform with us!! Photography by Elan Greenwald.

During the last couple of months, I decided to take a much needed mini-vaca to my favorite second home in Hawaii. There I met the some of the most inspiring musicians, contemplated about getting a gorgeous electric uke, and got pretty banged up in a paddle surfing accident! Refreshed, relaxed and ready to roll, I am now making big plans for next year with lots of new twists on my music and artistry as a whole. I am so excited about growing even more as writer and performer, and just when I least expected it, I got a few calls to perform for some holiday charities in and out of Los Angeles. Nothing like finishing out the year by giving back to my community and I thank God everyday for each and every person and opportunity that comes my way. Wishing you all a very blessed, safe and HAPPY HOLIDAY SEASON!!
With Love & Gratitude Always,
